BC (8-3) @ #4 Lamar Co. (10-0-1)

The Cadets travel to Barnesville, GA for their first 2nd round playoff game in 16 years.  Much like that game in LaGrange, the odds are long.

Lamar Co. is arguably the fastest team in AA. The QB is committed to Coastal Carolina, a defensive tackle is committed to Central Florida, and they have three junior defensive backs, who also share carries, that are being recruited by numerous SEC schools.  The offense is basically the same thing Camden runs, Wing-T with a lot of misdirection.  The defense runs a 3-4 and is currently ranked as the number 1 unit in Georgia.  The Trojans have won almost every game pretty handily to go along with a tie against Spalding.

The chances of BC winning are extremely slim.  Just keeping it close would be something not many have been able to do. Either way, that old BC spirit and attitude is back in the football program.  The win 16 years ago was the greatest in school history. A win tonight wouldn't eclipse the magnitude of that one but it would be a bigger upset.

(3) BC (7-3) @ (2) Laney (7-3)

BC will be looking for their first state playoff win since 1996.  Laney is similar to a Savannah public school team with the main difference being they win a lot.  The Augusta school is a perennial state playoff participant with ten appearances in the last eleven years, including two trips to the semifinals.  Recent standouts include Kendrell Bell and Corvey Irvin.

Laney has lost three games.  Two of those losses coming to ranked teams and the other to Westminster.  The Wildcats like to run the ball out of the spread and will throw when needed.  They will showcase the best group of athletes the Cadets have seen all year.  Defensively, they are obviously fast and athletic.

The Cadets have lost three games by a combined 14 points.  In all three of those contests the offensive line struggled and on top of that, BC will be missing two starters in that group.  Laney isn't as big as MCA or Vidalia on the defensive front but is much quicker.  BC threw it about 90% of the time against MCA and in the mini-playoff and though I expect to see more of the same Friday night, at some point the Cadets will have to run the ball with success.

The defense has been very good for most of the year but as with MCA, our defense just doesn't match up well with Laney.  The Wildcats force you to make plays in space and no Cadet team in over a decade has consistently been able to make those plays.  Big plays were a problem last week and the same could happen in Augusta.

As just stated, BC doesn't match up real well with Laney.  Screven Co. is the 1 seed in region 3 but play more of a smash mouth, run right at you style, that BC tends to fair better against.  Having said that, this is the best chance BC has had of winning a playoff game since 2000. It's not likely but its not that crazy either.

BC vs. Bacon vs. Toombs

In a scenario that is unusual to say the least, BC will play in a mini-playoff Monday evening at Long Co. high school.  Two of the three teams competing will advance to the state playoffs as the 3 and 4 seed from Region 2.

Format:

The three teams will flip coins to determine who Team A, Team B, and Team C are for the playoff.  Team A will play Team B in the first game.  Games will consist of two 5-minute halves.  If the game is tied at the end of the 10 minute regulation time, regular GHSA overtime rules will be used.  The winner of the first match up will advance to the state playoffs.

The loser of the first game would then play Team C in the second game.  The winner of that contest would also advance to the state playoffs.  The two teams that advance would then use their head-to-head regular season result to determine the seeding.

BC beat Bacon, Bacon beat Toombs, and Toombs beat BC.

- It will be extremely difficult for BC to play well Monday night.  The Cadets played an extremely physical game Friday night that came down to the last play.  Toombs and Bacon both had comfortable victories.  BC was the only team that controlled its destiny while Toombs had to have BC lose to get to the mini-playoff.  BC's season goal was to host a state playoff game. Having most likely lost that opportunity on Friday, the Cadets will struggle to match the energy level of Toombs and Bacon .

If BC does end up as the odd man out, the season in which the Cadets were ranked for the first time in 15 years, will most likely be considered a disappointment.  The 3 seed will advance to face Laney, while the 4 seed will face Screven Co.

BC (7-2,6-2) @ MCA (7-2,7-1)

The 2 seed and a home playoff game are on the line for both teams Friday night.  The Bucs have delivered two heartbreaking defeats to the Cadets. In 2008 in Darien, BC jumped out to a 14 point lead which evaporated with numerous special teams miscues.  In 2009, MCA capitalized on a 4th down face mask and scored in the final minute to give a 5-0 BC team its first loss.

This year, MCA's only region loss was to undefeated Vidalia, and they beat Toombs by 21.  The offense is talented and explosive with plenty of athletes that make plays in space.  The defense struggled early in the season with a lot of new starters but has been extremely stout over the last month.

BC is as healthy as its been in five games.  In that same time they have lost two crucial starters that are no longer in school.  The offense needs to be balanced but the passing game has been the best I've ever seen BC offer.  The defense has played well all year.  MCA is more capable of the big play than any other team BC has faced this year and the Cadets have been vulnerable to the big play at times.

If BC is to have a chance the offense has to stay on the field longer than it did against Vidalia and Toombs.  All year the 1st quarter has been a huge problem for the Cadets. BC can't afford to sputter early in this one. If BC plays okay early and is within one score at the half, we have a shot of coming up with the best and biggest road win since 2005.

MCA

Since Burke Co. in 2007, BC has not played a game with more on the line.

- Win and host a playoff game for the first time since 2000.
- Lose and play in a 3-team mini playoff on November 12th to determine 3 and 4 seeds.

Jeff Davis (2-6,1-6) @ BC (6-2,5-2)

After winning their first 2 games, the Yellow Jacket train hit a tractor trailer loaded with dynamite.  BC gets a play maker back but loses its leading rusher.  Doesn't matter this week.

Playoff scenarios:

-If BC beats JD and Toombs beats Vidalia tomorrow night, BC clinches a playoff birth.

-If BC wins out and Toombs beats Vidalia, there would be a 3-way tie for 2nd place between BC, Toombs, and MCA.
- If BC wins out and Vidalia beats Toombs, BC would be the 2 seed.
- If BC beats JD, loses to MCA, and Toombs beats Vidalia, BC would be the 4 seed.
- If BC beats JD, loses to MCA, and Vidalia beats Toombs, there would most likely be a 3-way tie for 3rd place between BC, Toombs, and Bacon.  There would then be 3 teams for 2 playoff spots, most likely decided with a mini playoff on November 12th at a neutral site.
