McIntosh @ BC

BC (5-0; 3-0)
Last Week: Beat Long 45-10
Leading Rusher: John Williams
TD's: Williams (3), Summers, Hunt, Ginn
FG: Boyd (22yds)
Halftime: 24-10
*BC's defense has given up the 2nd fewest points in all of AA with 5.8 ppg.
*Summers was injured against Long Co. and is questionable for MCA.

McIntosh County Acad. Buccaneers (3-1; 2-0)
Coach: Robby Robinson (40-15-1 in five seasons)
Offense: Pro I
Defense: Multiple 50
Starters returning: 4 on offense, 5 on defense
Best player: DL/OL Blake Riley
Other top players: OL Andre Thomas, FB Richie Austin, DL T.J. Jenkins, LB Jacob Caldwell

MCA is looking for its sixth consecutive playoff appearance under Robby Robinson and is expanding upon a dominant ground game. MCA's best offensive lineman, Andre Thomas, a first-team all-region player returns to lead the attack. Alvin Jackson and Jojo Wynn are two explosive backs who both ran for over 100 yards in their last outing. Look for FB Richie Austin (214 yards) to play a major role as well. The Bucs have put up 40 and 56 points in two different games already this season. On defense, the Buccaneers lost LB Sequan Stanley, the region co-defensive player of the year. But the front seven is still solid with DL Blake Riley, DL T.J. Jenkins and LB Jacob Caldwell. The Bucs have shutout both Glynn Academy and Long County. McIntosh's only loss of 2009 came in a season opening 1 point defeat at Liberty County. Liberty lost to Washington Co. (#5 in AAA) by 3 last Friday night. It looks like a typical MCA team for a coach who has won three region titles in five years.

BC @ Long

Last Year: BC won 63-50

BC (4-0, 2-0)
Last Week: Beat Pierce 44-7
Leading Rusher: Michael Summers
TD's: Summers (3), John Williams (2), Arik Brown
FG: Boyd (35 yds)
Halftime: 28-7

via GHSFD:
Long County Blue Tide (0-3, 0-2)
Coach: Kyle Wilson
Offense: Spread
Defense: 3-5 Multiple
Starters returning: 6 on offense, 6 on defense
Best player: QB Jake Durham
Other top players: QB Justin Boyd, WR/DB Donte Brown, DL/OL Omar Castro, OL/DL Chris
Kyle Wilson took over a program in 2005 that had never won a game. He's gone 2-8, 2-8, 4-6 and 4-6. In 2008, Long won every close game and got flattened in the other six simply because it was overmatched. This is a fun team operating out of the spread. Back are second-team all-region QB Jake Durham (2,183 passing yards, 21 TDs) who threw for 468 yards and 5 touchdowns against the Cadets last year. All-region point guard on the court, WR/QB Justin Boyd (584 receiving yards, 11 total TDs) brings athleticism to the QB spot and a play maker on the outside. Long County beat Camden County 38-20 in a passing league game this summer, for what it's worth. The defense will do what it can, but this is a unit that has already given up 114 points in 3 games. It will be tough improving or even maintaining the level of 4-6 for this small school that re-started football in 2002, but with QB's Boyd and Durham and company, it will be fun trying.

Pierce @ BC (Sat. 6:00)

Last Year: Pierce beat BC 28-27 (2OT)

BC (3-0, 1-0)
Last Week: Beat Jeff Davis 25-0
Leading Rusher: Michael Summers
TD's: Alex Hunt, Arik Brown, Michael Summers
FG: Luke Boyd (31 yds)
Halftime: 8-0

via GHSFD:
Pierce County Bears (0-3, 0-1)
Coach: Mike Woodard
Offense: Multiple option
Defense: Multiple 50
Best player: RB/LB Jaelen Smiley
Other top players: QB Jake Graham, RB/LB Derrail Moore, FB/LB Xavier McGauley, FB/DL Quayvon Hicks, WR/DB Obie Foreman, WR/DE Matthew Wheeler, RB/DB

Whether its taken as a compliment or not, Pierce is the best winless team in the state. Last week the Bears jumped out to a 14-0 lead against region favorite Charlton Co. The Indians came back to win 38-36 after Pierce failed on a 2-point conversion attempt with 51 seconds remaining. Losses to Cook Co. and Coffee Co. in non-region games account for the other two defeats. However, Pierce was down 4 and 9 respectively heading into the 4th quarter in those two contests. The Bears are returning a strong core of players offensively that includes junior QB Jake Graham and big, bruising, senior RB Jaelen Smiley. Defensively, the Bears are retooling after losing key players on the line. There is the issue of replacing the best player from 2008, Kris Durr, who was first team all-region at defensive back, second team at running back and the special teams player of the year. Pierce will rely on two-way players such as WR/DB Obie Foreman and RB/LB Derrail Moore to provide that kind of versatility. The showing against Charlton gained the Bears a tremendous amount of respect and showed that this team is more than ready to challenge for a playoff spot.

Goof, what the hell are you doing on the bathroom counter!?!

BC @ Jeffery Davis

BC (2-0)
Last Week: Beat Sav. High 31-6
Leading Rusher Michael Summers
TD's: Matthew Ginn, Stephen Humphrey, John Williams, Summers
*Humphrey blocked punt and recovered for a TD. Safety on high punt snap. Halftime: 29-0

Jeff Davis Yellow Jackets (1-1)
Coach: Jason McBride (1-9 in one season)
Offense: Multiple I
Defense: 4-3
Starters returning: 4 on Off, 5 on Def
Best player: OL/DL Colby Jowers
Other top players: FB/LB Kaleb LaRoche, DL Josh Bohannon
via Georgia High School Football Daily:
In his first season, promoted assistant coach Jason McBride saw his team win its opener and then lose nine straight, going winless in region play. The scores were not pretty, as Jeff Davis was within a touchdown of only one opponent during the skid. The team is young again and after winning in week 1, they fell in a back and forth game in week 2. The Jackets are now looking for a win in the first game of region play coming in with a team that the coaches are saying is a lot more formidable than last year. The best players will go both ways. They include OL/DL Colby Jowers and FB/LB Kaleb LaRoche. Jowers was Jeff Davis' only all-region performer last season.

BC (1-0)
Last Week: Beat Windsor 7-6.
Leading Rusher: John Williams 142yds.
Leading Receiver: Joey Friess 2 rec.
TD: Michael Summers
Leading Tacklers: Michael Foran, Matt Shay, Taylor Robinson

via Georgia High School Football Daily:
Savannah Blue Jackets (0-0)
Coach: David Jackson (first year)
Offense: I formation
Defense: 50
Starters returning: 5 on offense, 5 on defense
Best player: RB Jamel Green
Other top players: OL/DL Quarzell Taylor.

Savannah alum David Jackson has his work cut out for him transforming an 0-10 mess into the respectable program the Blue Jackets were when Jackson played in the mid-1980s. After firing former coach and NFL wide receiver Charlie Brown midway through last season, the Blue Jackets fell into disarray and were outscored 201-28 in their final five games. Now Jackson begins work in 2009 with a small roster of just 43 players. RB Jamel Green, one of a handful of seniors, gives the Blue Jackets speed and skill in the backfield, but there is precious little of it. Sophomore quarterback Robert Lewis got some snaps last season but is still raw and needs time to mature. James Cooper, a 6-3 junior, is talented and is the team's top receiver. The Jackets had their off date last week which gave the new staff more time to teach and prepare a youthful squad. There is talent at Savannah, its just a matter of getting it on the field and on the same page.
