DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke wide receiver Eron Riley has received ACC Player of the Week honors following an outstanding performance in the Blue Devils' 46-43 loss at Navy this past weekend. Against the Midshipmen, Riley caught six passes for a career-high 235 yards and four touchdowns. The four touchdown receptions -- covering 76, 35, nine and 69 yards -- matched Duke's single-game school record set by Corey Thomas against Georgia Tech in 1997. In addition, the 235-yard effort marks the fifth-highest single-game total in Duke gridiron history while the 24 points scores equals the fourth-best single-game effort in the Blue Devil annuals. Riley's 76-yard scoring strike from quarterback Thaddeus Lewis matched the ninth-longest pass completion in school history. The Savannah, Ga., native averaged 39.2 yards per catch on the afternoon, and now owns career totals of 59 receptions for 1,260 yards and nine touchdowns in 25 career games. In the ACC, Riley currently ranks first in receiving yards per game (92.5), touchdown receptions (4) and yards per catch (23.1; minimum 10 receptions). In addition to Riley's offensive back of the week citation, the other ACC weekly honorees included Clemson's Christian Capote (offensive lineman), Virginia's Jeffrey Fitzgerald (defensive lineman), Wake Forest's Alphonso Smith (defensive back), N.C. State's Darrell Blackman (specialist) and Wake Forest's Josh Adams (rookie).

Quick Thoughts

* LSU is the best team in the country and will not lose a game this year.
* The SEC is down as a whole and only has one true National Title contender.
* If Georgia Tech beats Boston College they deseve to be in the Top 10.
* The Big Ten is worse this year than it was last year.
* The ACC is a 3 horse race(GA Tech, Boston College, Clemson).
* Bobby Bowden is about to have to start answering a lot of questions.
* Kentucky will beat Louisville this week.
* Lou Holtz should replace Lloyd Carr.

Georgia Thoughts

After a disappointing loss to South Carolina, its easy to see that Georgia is the team that we thought they might be in the preseason, not the team we saw against Oklahoma State. With that being said, Georgia's goals should be no different than they were this time last week. Every game is still winnable and a "East" Championship is still possible. South Carolina will lose at least 3 SEC games. Tennessee is very beatable but just like Georgia should get better as the season grows older. Vandy will beat someone they shouldn't but will not make a bowl. Florida looks to be strong but the defense could have issues once they play big boy teams. Kentucky's offense will allow them to be VERY competitive and could be the team who determines which team will win the east. Simply put, its a wide open race and a win at Alabama would put Georgia right back in the picture. However, if Georgia plays like they did last night, a loss to Alabama would basically make Georgia's ultimate gaol a middle tier bowl .

Georgia's strengths: Special teams, QB, Running Back, Tight Ends, Middle Linebacker.
Even with Stafford's performance against USC, he won't play any worse the rest of the year. Moreno is good. Chandler made some very good plays and adds a solid blocker to the front. Dannell Ellerbe is the only defensive player to have back-to-back standout performances. And Mikey Henderson might be our best player at this point in the season.

Weaknesses: Front 4, B. Miller
South Carolina dominated the interior with the run and outside of a couple of QB pressures, made the ends irrelevant.

I think Georgia's offensive line is holding up better than most thought it would and the scoring will come. If the Defensive front seven gets better, and that might involve some new personnel, Georgia can be good and play for a championship. If not, Bama, Tennessee, Kentucky and Florida will have as much success as Carolina but will be putting the ball in the end zone instead of settling for 3 points.
