Charlton County's Rich McWhorter is seeking his 20th consecutive winning season which includes 4 State Championships. Last year, Charlton lost in the first round under McWhorter for the first time, and it was by a 39-7 score. The Indians have no similar plans for 2009. The team has excelled on the offensive side of the ball standing #2 in the state averaging 45 ppg. Sophomore RB Tre Hamilton is the headliner as he ran for 972 yards and 19 TD's as a Freshman. Against Pierce Co. earlier this season, he ran for 311 yards and 3 TD's. Junior QB Chris Milton (1,049 Yds, 18 total TDs in '08) threw 6 TD passes last week and ran for another. The Offensive line is strong and experienced.
At the begining of the season Charlton struggled on defense with only 3 starters back from last year. However, in the past 3 games the effort has been significantly better including a dominant performance in a 42-7 route over Appling. DL Suave Bolden is a McWhorter favorite. Charlton is in prime position for its 7th region championship of the decade and a more familiar deep run in the playoffs.
