2009 BC Preview

via Georgia High School Football Daily:

Benedictine Cadets
2008 record: 5-5, 3-5 (sixth in region)

Average record this decade: 5-5
Coach: Mark Stroud (first season)
Offense: Spread (coordinator: Mark Stroud)--Defense: 4-3 (coordinator: Tim Blackston)

Starters returning: 6 on offense, 6 on defense
Best player: QB/FS Alex Hunt
Other top players: RB John Williams, OL/LB Luke Pashke, LB Matt Shay, DL Andrew Johnson, DB Howie Pavlo
Key losses: RB Caleb Collins (Shorter), DL Clinton Joyce, C Joey Rutherford

Outlook: Benedictine promoted alumnus Mark Stroud, its defensive coordinator since 2006, to replace the retiring Bob Herndon. The offense should be pretty good with returning starters Alex Hunt at quarterback and first-team all-region RB John Williams (1,103 yards rushing, 22 touchdowns). Hunt also was an all-region defensive back, the region's best punter, and has been named to the AA preseason all-state team. The offensive line is very young and inexperienced with 3 new starters. The defense allowed 28 points per game last season (and even allowed 50 in one of Benedictine's victories). The defense does return 6 senior starters. There must be significant improvement there to have a winning season or playoff berth.
