A few things were obvious to everyone.

Our offensive line was abused which made the conservative run calls for a majority of the 2nd half even more dumbfounding. The one drive when we were aggressive while trailing, we went right down the field and scored a TD.

Halftime adjustments. One team did well here.

Settling for a 42 yard kick would be stupid with a kicker that had never missed in his life. Settling for one with a 50% kicker is insanity.

3 OT possessions: -9 yards.

No toss sweep, no draw, not one touch by a fullback and just 1 by a TE.

Boykin put up one of the best performances in Georgia history. He and Ben Jones are and always will be DGD's.

Not so obvious.

Georgia defense gave up 58 combined points in the 2nd half of the last 2 games. I don't care if its fatigue or injuries or whatever, you can't go into the off season saying you have a "great" defense for 2012.

Georgia beat 4 teams with winning records in '11: Miss State (7-6), Florida (7-6), Auburn (8-5), and GTU ( 8-5).

In Georgia's last 17 games against ranked opponents, the Dawgs are 3-14. Two of those 3 wins have come against teams ranked #24.

* The season was fun and not bad. Georgia took care of business against everyone they should and had the #1 team in the country on the ropes for a half. But imo, Georgia can't continue to have the mindset that a win is a win. Georgia, and specifically CMR, need to expect perfection. Right now and since 2001 I think we are happy with above average. Above average almost bit us in Oxford, Knoxville, and especially Nashville. It got us a loss in Tampa.

Personally, I think this has a lot of umph. I could be wrong, and they are a long way away from being there, but I don't just see this as a scare tactic. The Larry Campbell thoughts are something to take note of.

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. —
Seton Hall freshman forward Brandon Mobley of Savannah has been cleared to resume playing and will be in uniform on Sunday when the Pirates face Mercer.

Mobley dislocated his right shoulder and tore his labrum while playing in the New Jersey Shore League last summer. The 6-foot-9 freshman had missed Seton Hall’s first nine games of the season.

Mobley averaged 20 points, eight rebounds and three blocks last season at St. John’s Northwestern Military Academy in Wisconsin. As a senior he led Groves High School to a 28-2 record.

Seton Hall is 8-1 this season after finishing last season with a 13-18 record.

- Mobley conveniently left Windsor after his Junior year and somehow wound up at Groves. He was a bad dude. He will square off against Coursey on Sunday and Mercer will then play at Georgia on Tuesday.

Tribute to Larry Munson

I have nothing unique to add to what became a trending topic on Twitter last night. Munson was at his best when college football (radio) announcers were really big in the sports world because people didn’t have a way to see many games. He was Georgia football for so many people and a big reason why some older people are Georgia fans at all.

Georgia football's Mount Rushmore has two undisputable faces and he is one of them. Munson's good friend Jeff Dantzler believes the only reason some people revere Herschel more than Munson is because of Munson himself. For as long as Georgia football exists, the Mighty Munson will be a part of it.

Heaven just picked up a new Movie Club.

Benedictine (5-5) at McEachern (9-1)

- McEachern is 27-23 all-time in the playoffs. Only one of those victories has come since the 2005 season.

- McEachern has stumbled early in the playoffs the past two seasons despite good records. In 2009, the Indians were 10-0 and ranked No. 6 and lost to Brookwood 20-10 in the first round. In 2010, they were 10-1 and ranked No. 4 and lost to Valdosta 31-28 in the second round. This year, they are ranked No. 6.

- Other than Camden County, schools from Region 3-AAAAA (of which Benedictine is a member and the No. 3 seed) have never won a playoff game on the road. They are 0-22.

Camden will be the 1 seed. After that, 5 teams are fighting for 3 spots. Beach upsetting Groves this past Saturday made things more intersting for everyone, including BC.

If Jenkins won, there would be a 3-way tie between BC, Groves, and Windsor, with BC beating WF, WF beating Groves, and Groves beating BC. I don't know what the tie-breaker here is.

If BC loses to Beach and beats Groves, BC is in the playoffs and would be the 3 seed with a Windsor win over Jenkins, or would be the 2 if Jenkins beats Windsor.

If BC loses to both Beach and Groves, BC would miss the playoffs. Even if Windsor lost to Savannah High and Jenkins there would be a 4-way tie at 4-4 between BC, Windsor, Jenkins, and Beach. Beach would get in because of thier wins over BC and Jenkins, and Jenkins would get in with their wins over BC and Windsor.

The Beach upset of Groves hurt BC more than helped with Beach having to win that game to keep its playoff hopes alive. Beach will be eliminated from playoff contention with a loss to BC, but will almost be guaranteed a spot with a win, even though they finish with Camden.

Basically, the biggest game in the area this week is by far and away, BC vs. Beach.

Bye Week Grades

Defensive Backs: Been very solid and consistent. Branden Smith has gotten better and he's not even starting. Shawn Williams has been one of, if not the biggest surprises on the team, Boykin is great, and Rambo learned how to cover at some point. A+

Linebackers: Jarvis Jones and Mike Gilliard are competing for MVP in this group. Robinson is underrated in that he does a lot of things that don't show up in the stats. More surprising than maybe even Gilliard is the play of Herrera. Not much has been said about this kid but he has done a great job filling in and hes going to be a solid player for a long time. Vasser has been good filling in as well. Ray Drew figured to be a starter on signing day, yet he hasn't done much of anything until the Vandy game. Things can only get better with this group when TreeWash returns. A

Defensive Line: Jenkins and Geathers have been solid but have yet to reach game changer status. Abry Jones and Tyson are kind of what we thought they were. Solid players but not great. Still waiting for a Garrison Smith or a Lott, who got a lot of press in the spring, to emerge as a contributor. B-

Offensive Line: To cut them a break, the attrition prior to the season was amazing. Lack of depth, a right tackle who was a defensive lineman, and two guards who had no experience, have all contributed to an average at best O-line. Glynn and Ben Jones seem to have played well but the line as a whole have had their problems. Running up the gut has been difficult but the ability of Crowell and Thomas to bounce outside effectively has saved the running game. Murray has taken a beating and has become noticeably less comfortable in the pocket, and more eager to get out of it. The problem here is that its not going to get better anytime soon, and any injury is obviously going to make it worse. C-

Running Backs: Crowell's talent is undeniable. He's better than I thought he'd be ability wise. However, his endurance has been a problem and his output is very inconsistent throughout games. 2nd half at Ole Miss he was flat out exhausted. Tennessee had a mix of injuries that kept him fresh for the 2nd half in which he was good. Would like to see the kid be good for all four quarters (preferably in the next game) and a little bit tougher. Thomas has been better than expected and Samuel is lost in the universe, though he did an okay job in Nashville. Figgins and little Tree appear to have been solid but to this point haven't been a huge factor in a good or bad way. B-

Quarterbacks: I'll be the first to admit that AM is not as good as he was last year. He's inconsistent with deep passes and his decision making has left a lot to be desired. However, his best receiver is a true freshman, his O-line is not SEC good, and we still play action waaaaaay to much when it doesn't suit him a whole lot. Still, he's #1 in the SEC in total offense, #2 in passing yards per game, and #3 in passing efficiency. He's still as good as he was last year in using his legs. And I guarantee you he's as tough as any QB in the league. We were just spoiled with his play last year when he benefited a tad with AJ. A-

Receivers/TE's: T. King has shown glimmers but I think its obvious he isn't a #1. Brown exploded in Nashville and I didn't see that coming. Bennentt has been huge and I don't think many people saw him as a big threat coming into the year but has established himself as a top 4 threat in the passing game. Mitchell has been unbelievable and hes only going to get better. He's raw in almost every aspect of the position, yet he's still getting open and making catches. That will change as the season goes on as more attention will be sent his way. Wooten is a guy who I pegged as a breakout player prior to the season. He has been hurt recently, but my previous belief no longer exists with him. Meanwhile, Troupe has been told practice is optional.

The tight ends are really good. But somehow we can't find a way to make them superstars. I could be wrong but I believe the coaches are not exhausting every option in making them all-american type players. I'm sure other teams play a hand in it and other options are good ones. I just see the Patriots using two TE's to go up and down the field every week, without resorting to their running game or having a vicious threat on the outside. Yet, a normal combined output from Charles and White reads like 4 catches for 40 yards. B-

Special Teams: There's the obvious with Walsh but then there's everything else. Our kickoff coverage and return teams are below average. Our punt returns are 3rd in the SEC but nothing big play wise. Butler is #1 in the SEC in yards per punt, but we are almost at the bottom in net yardage. But more so than anything, is the continuous battle we face in not being able to stop any sort of fake whatsoever. I don't understand and I don't want to understand. It cost us one game when a D-lineman ran 99 yards and it almost did in Nashville with a 98 yard fake. D-

* Georgia is better than last year, but by how much I don't know. Boise is really good but Carolina is not that great. The rest of our schedule has been ponies and pig tails. We play Florida's SEC schedule and we have a minimum of 4 losses and the search is on. The season is just beginning however, and as it has so many times before, the program, team, and CMR, have so much riding on the Cocktail party. 2011 will be remembered for what takes place in the next 5 games.

When was the last time Florida lost 4 in a row?
When was the last time Georgia won a truly meaningful game?

With the struggles of Aaron Murray and the high quality backup of Hutson Mason, has there been any increased competition for the QB role? Coach Richt is a big believer in competition, but it seems to be a double standard when Murray continues to throw interceptions but remains the undisputed starter.

OK, let’s back up a second. I know the backup quarterback is always the most popular player on the team. But Aaron Murray ranks third in the SEC and 17th in the country in pass efficiency rating. He’s third in the SEC in passing yards and second in touchdown passes. He was the preseason All-SEC first-team pick. Yeah, he has thrown too many interceptions so far. But let’s not go crazy here.

As for Hutson Mason, he seems to be a pretty good player but let’s not turn him into Johnny Unitas yet. He was a three-star recruit, and he hasn’t gotten any playing time against serious competition. He may be a good player if pressed into duty, and I think his teammates would have confidence in him. But the idea of yanking Murray for Mason at this point is pretty laughable.

In my opinion, last week was Murray's worst game ever. You have to take care of the football and all three of his interceptions were either bad throws or really bad decisions. There are excuses built in such as the O-line couldn't pass protect against Southeast Bulloch or our best receiver is a true freshman. But Georgia has a shot at something and he has to revert to the middle of 2010, at least decision making wise, if we are to take advatage of this shot. I still have all the confidence in the world in him and he has a chance to make Georgia relevant and CMR comfortable. With these next three losable games, he can put an end to any and all debate for the next 2 and a half years.

As of two weeks ago he was my #1 QB in the SEC. Right now I'd say 3.

Jeff Schultz: If you take out wins over FCS (Tennessee Tech, Idaho State) and Sun Belt (Louisiana-Lafayette) schools, Richt is 11-14 overall since 2009. He’s 6-10 in the last 16 SEC games and 2-10 against ranked teams. To go 9-1 overall and 6-1 in the SEC the rest of the way is possible. But it would be a stark contrast to what we’ve been witnessing.

Richt said the South Carolina game “could’ve gone either way. Did we improve tremendously? There’s no doubt about that. I left the field sick about losing but encouraged about the team.”

Improvement is good. But winning saves jobs. Richt has left himself no room for error.

You can't really put a number on wins Richt needs to save his job. But with the schedule Georgia has ahead of them, probably being favored in all but 1 or 2, I think its pretty safe to say 8 wins is a minimum with 9 giving him a good chance of getting him to 2012. Its always important who the wins and losses come against but I don't see 7-5 with wins against Florida and Tech saving him. Just as I don't see 8-4 with a loss to Florida giving him a good chance.

I see Georgia finishing 8-4. I don't know who or where the 2 losses come. Georgia should have won Saturday but they lost because right now thats what we do, find ways to lose. This team is good enough to turn the tide and be good. We can win every game left but the lack of depth is too glaring to win 10 in a row. So having said all that, with so many variables, so much left to unfold, I believe a lot will be determined on the banks of the St. John's, just as it has been so many times before for the Georgia football program.

In 2011 BC will try to rebound from one of the worst seasons in school history. The Cadets will have a new scheme on both sides of the ball. Offensively, the Cadets will most likely start 7 seniors (including QB & TB), 1 junior, and 3 sophomores, working primarily out of the I-formation. Look for a good balance of run and pass with a lot of the passing game coming off of play action. The offensive line will be asked to go from a finesse, 2-point stance scheme to a hand in the ground, attacking style of blocking. The success of the offense will depend greatly on how quickly the O-line can improve and gel as the season progresses. The offense will be at its best when it is able to establish some sort of running game and pick its spots with play action.

Defensively, the Cadets will be young with only 3 seniors expected to start on opening night. The defense will primarily be seen in a 4-3 look. The D-line is a little undersized but appear to be quite adept at getting to the passer. With the lack of size up front the line backing corps will be counted on to make a lot of tackles. There's a good combination of youth and experience at the position but they've got to be players for this defense to be good. The secondary is arguably the strongest unit on the team and will hopefully not be counted on as much as they were last year.

Special teams will be more of a question than usual. Throughout camp the kicking and punting competition was up for grabs and through the Calvary scrimmage seems to still be at that point.

It takes time to come back from 1-9. However, a state playoff birth is not an unreasonable goal. Jenkins will be extremely tough but games against Windsor, Bradwell, and Groves will determine what kind of year the Cadets will have. Losses to any of the other region foes, outside of Camden, and BC will be playing for pride only down the stretch. Two tough opponents early should prove to be beneficial heading into region play as Camden will probably be the only team better than those two.

*BC will only play 3 true road games.

*The Savannah High game has been moved to September 17th @ Memorial Stadium.

*The trip to Camden will only be BC's 2nd since being the last team other than Camden to win the region.

*Region 3-AAAAA is matched up with 4-AAAAA for the 1st round. Region 4 includes McEachern, Hillgrove, Harrison, and North Cobb.

Offensive standout other than A.J.: Orson Charles

Actual: Arron Murray running away.
Offensive breakout: Logan Gray

Actual: Arron Murray but Gray right on his heels.
Offensive surprise: Marlon Brown
Actual: Probably Murray but I'd go with Durham because he was unbelievable in Green's place and other than King and Charles here and there #16 was the only big threat opposite of Green

Defensive standout: Justin Houston

Actual: Justin Houston
Defensive breakout: Daryl Gamble

Actual: Akeem Dent. The defense was better in '09 when he was healthy and was a tackling machine while everyone else was in the shop.
Defensive surprise: Christian Robinson

Actual: N/A. If I had to choose one I guess Dowtin who basically took Robinson's job.

Outback vs. Penn State

Missed it by about 4 slots. Carolina will most likely get that spot with a loss to Auburn (Fact: that is the only bowl Carolina is allowed to go to). With a win over Florida, Georgia would've most likely landed in the Gator. At 7-5 maybe Nashville. Instead, playing in Memphis against a team that will be more than capable of beating us. Memphis is a very fine city however.
